Abstract

The technical and scientific literature dealing with tho-racic injury, to or witkin the rib cage, from blunt load-ing is reviewed. The history of the development of asso-ciated Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards is revieWed.More research attention should be given to the shape ofthe impactor, to the loading locatin and direction, andto injuries in the contusion and/or laceration family.
