Abstract

This paper concentrates on the reported use and effectiveness of seat belts in the United Kingdom. It reviews firstly the data on the crash performance of belts. Studies date from the early 1960's, but all have limitations which have left a number of questions unanswered concerning the actual performance of belts in real collisions. These questions are discussed with particular reference to different types of seat belts.
