Abstract

Methods for describing the stochastic nature of the number of road accidents and the number of claims in motor insurance are reviewed. Models for the number of accidents experienced by an individual (including models for accident proneness) are considered . Models related to a collective of individuals and for the number of claims are discussed, as well as models which use other variables in order to explain the number of accidents or claims.
