Abstract

The transmission of information to drivers on the highway has been a challenge since the early days of vehicular traffic. Visual transmission by means of traffic signs was a natural development. Highway and safety problems grew rapidly and the many problems among the visibility, legibility, message content, and national or international uniformity were to require systematic work and resolution.
