Abstract

This report contains the Dutch designation policy requirements for determining: (1) which destinations should be presented on signposts; (2) how this presentation should take place; and (3) how many destinations one signpost can contain. The report presents the designation policy requirements for geographical destinations. These destinations include: (i) interurban signalization; and (ii) the transition from interurban into local signalization. The report also presents the designation policy requirements for specific destinations. These destinations include: (a) industrial areas; (b) airports; (c) companies and organizations; (d) provisions and accommodations for both tourism and for recreation; (e) parking places, and park and ride schemes; (f) petrol stations; and (g) bank provisions. The report also presents the designation policy in relation to both road maintenance works and to the use of publicity. The report briefly describes: (1) the policy concerning information panels; (2) how designations or directional traffic signs can be removed; (3) the costs associated with producing, placing, replacing, modifying, maintaining and repairing directional traffic signs; and (4) the procedure for submitting a request for a signalization. The designation policy forms together with the motorway and non-motorway signalization recommendations the new Dutch signalization requirements. See also IRRD 867144 (C 2923) and 867145 (C 2924).
