The method of indicating the road section being worked on and the cordoning off of traffic, should be clear and unambiguous to the road-user, to such an extent that the road-user knows exactly what is expected. Therefore it is important that road works be indicated and cordoned off in a uniform and consistent manner. The requirements resulting from this for the measures and facilities for works in progress are covered in these guidelines. In addition the consequences of a number of new statutory requirements which influence the way in which works are prepared and carried out, have also been included.
