Abstract
Specifications have been drawn up for the layout of non-motorways. The main purpose is the improvement of traffic safety by specifying a uniform layout for each category in which clearly recognizable road traffic situations arise. The traffic function is the basis of the layout following certain category characteristics. Before the specifications can be applied to the existing road network certain desired interventions in the field of traffic engineering need to be weighed against financial and environmental aspects.
