Abstract

ROSPA is the main United Kingdom independent safety organisation and has been active in the field of cyclist training since 1947. It provides materials and syllabuses for local authorities to run education, training and publicity programmes to complement the media campaigns of central government. The National Cycling Proficiency Scheme is a simple practical training programme. Recently "Cycleway" an indepth programme which is run as a school subject, is completed. Both programmes are aimed at 9-10 year olds. There is evidence that these programs do improve rider behaviour.
