Abstract

It is described how speed distributions of cars on rural roads have changed since the oil crisis and the introduction of a general speed limit of 80 km/h. Spot speed measurements were carried out on 32 road sites in the province of Gelderland before and after the limit was introduced. Road perception and road design characteristics appear to be relevant for the degree of change. Results are presented.
