Abstract

The studies described in this monograph were aimed at gaining a better understanding of the role of risk in road user behaviour. To accomplish this, "risk" had to be defined. Because both probability and disutility of consequences are part and parcel to risk in road user behaviour, risk was considered as (total) expected loss, i.e., as a function of probability and disutility of possible losses.
