Abstract

The overall characteristics of a large number of vehicles such as forklift trucks or earth moving machinery are such that visibility is quite restricted. It is important that visual imperatives be taken into consideration by the manufacturers in the design of the vehicles. In order to do so the manufacturers must be able to rely on well defined and validated standards and regulations. The current standards are discussed, and the study described identifies quantitative criteria that could be integrated into the regulatory procedures for the measurement of visibility.
