Abstract

Although the risk of accidents of young drivers clearly increased in the past years, the fact of the matter is nothing new. The question is what accident research can do to improve this situation. In this paper only one aspect, that of driver education is highlighted. In the Federal Republic of Germany the probationary driving legislation has come into effect on 1 November 1986. The theoretical driver training will be improved and an evaluation program for the next four years is set up.
