Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the identification and application of the casualty costs and external costs of road traffic accidents. Subjects covered include accident cost valuation methods and analysis of the various types of accident cost, including hospital costs, emergency services costs, vehicle repair costs, long term disability and rehabilitation costs, the cost of loss of quality of tire, and the cost of delays incurred by other motorists. Other subjects include the costs and benefits of accident prevention measures and the establishment of standardised accident type costs which are used for project planning and evaluation. These items have been selected from the material added to the TRL Library Database between 1997 and 2000. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
