Abstract

The need for an international standard for the comparison of accident rates is discussed. After reviewing work by others in this field the author describes his own work which has led to a formula for an "International Death Rate" (The "Smeed Rate" which is based on the TRRL formula for predicting deaths from the population and number of vehicles registered in a country.
