Abstract

By constitution, the provision of roads in Canada is a provincial responsibility. The provincial highway systems were gradually enlarged. In some Provence the administration of all rural roads became a provincial responsibility, while in others subsidies were paid to municipalities for the construction and maintenance of local rural roads. This report attempts to defiance the situation as it exists in 1968.
