Abstract

Information types distributing in the internet include character information, map information, and picture information, as well as audio information. Among these, map information is predicted to increase with various purposes and many contents because of the following features: a) Map itself includes large information, some can't be transmitted without map data, b) Providing map information lets users comprehend information contents more easily, and c) Plentiful services can be realized by means of GPS (Global Positioning System) connecting with map information. Now there is various map information in the internet, such as "road information", "traffic information", "route situation information", as well as "tourist information". Meanwhile there are some problems and impediments on handling map information for both users and information providers (road administrators). In order to solve these problems, a measure that is the core technology in Sapporo ITS is proposed in this paper, at the same time the road and traffic information system utilizing XML technology of Sapporo ITS is introduced. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
