Abstract

The influence of road infrastructure factors in determining the cause of accidents, and the contribution of a road data bank are studied. One of the INRETS research objectives has been to expose the influence of road infrastructure defects and combination of defects on road accidents in the open country. The originality of the methodology employed is in using measurements from high speed devices, quantifying the road in objective parameters. Most of the measurements from these devices are available in a road data bank man at national level. Main research findings concern bends, surface characteristics, sight distances and shoulders.
