Abstract

To realize Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), it is essential to make efficient use of the information offered by the existing infrastructure. The Variable Message Sign (VMS) is a central road device that is an essential medium for providing drivers with road information. The current VMS system, however, is faced with a variety of problems, most notably its incompatibility with the system architecture of ITS. In this study, the Intelligent Message Sign (IMS) system is discussed as an alternative infrastructure for the conventional VMS system to handle the ITS-based advanced information services. (A*)
