Abstract

The availability of road databases is a key point for ITS. In Europe, common efforts have led to define normalized content and exchange format. In most European countries, databases are in process and normalization should allow to merge them. IGN-France has for instance created GEOROUTE. The current problem is not to define and produce such databases but to ensure and to maintain the quality level needed for applications like car navigation systems or various information services. For many years, IGN-F has been involved in studies related to the quality of geographic databases: how to define and to measure it? An application of these research projects has already been made for GEOROUTE. The paper presents the current quality control (methodology and results), the enhancements planned for this quality control and some actions to enhance data quality.
