Abstract

The paper begins by defining safety objectives. The driver, the driving environment and the driving task are examined next. A simple model of driver behaviour is outlined and the possible sources of error (for example, sensation, perception, judgment and action) are described. The highway system and hazards are discussed and the paper concludes with suggestions for a more comprehensive approach to possible accident prevention measures.
