Abstract

After many theoretical considerations, it seemed to French Ministry of Transport that the best way to organize the dialogue about partnership for road information services is to start from the present situation. The existing public structure of road information centres should be extended, a) toward the local authorities to manage public road information data bases; and b) toward private operators to allow them to use these data bases. Rules for managing these centres and for using their information are the backbone of the new architecture.
