Abstract

This work reports on one phase of an examination of possible relationships between lighting and accidents in Britain. Lighting quality parameters have been measured at regular intervals over 90 km length of dry two-way roads subject to a 48 km/h speed limit. The analysis of the data showed that the dark-to-day accident ratio is related to some of the lighting variables. The clearest relationship found was that for average luminance.
