Road lighting. Part 2: code of practice for lighting for traffic routes.

Abstract

This part of BS 5489 gives recommendations for the lighting of all-purpose traffic routes up to 15 m in width for single carriageways and up to 2 by 11 m in width for dual carriageways. Motorways are not included. Details are given of mounting height, limitation of glare, choice of lamps, lighting of surrounds, lighting of road surface, design spacings, spacings for roads with bends, planning, maintenance and operation. An appendix illustrates step by step the use of this code. This part of BS 5489 supercedes the 1974 edition (see IRRD 215700) which is now withdrawn.
