Abstract

The importance of the attitude of the learner driver or more experienced driver undertaking advanced training is discussed. The first step is to help the learner switch off from external distractions and switch on to being a safer driver. The mobile phone is considered a particular risk. It is suggested that this should be switched off for short journeys and responded to during more frequent breaks in longer journeys. Learning not to be irritated by other drivers is a key skill. Courtesy on the road is considered important for safety and security. Procedures for overtaking are outlined. Concentration and smooth driving are advocated.
