Abstract

This conference slide presentation concerns the road safety vision for the future from the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC). The European Union target of halving road deaths by 2010 was implemented by the 3rd Road Safety Action Programme. ETSC's response includes the need for shared responsibility and the European Charter for Road Safety. It introduces the "Road Safety Leitbild" - a guiding vision for minimising road risk and maximising casualty reduction. This should promote awareness of safety issues and integration of effort while enabling sustainable development. Environmental, economic and social factors are described. For the covering abstract see ITRD E121172.
