Abstract

Over the past decade there has been a downward trend in road fatality rates in a number of countries. The author describes the major aspects of the Australian effort to reduce the road toll. A systematic approach to road safety- covering man, machine and environment and their interaction- has formed the basis for road safety policies in Australia.
