Abstract

If we need to make further advances in road safety, we will need to resolve a particularly serious gap in our knowledge before we can advance much further. We have monitored individual drivers, particularly those having trouble with the system, but we know far too little about the behaviour of normal seemingly-safe traffic streams The research to be done lies in closing that gap and will be operator-determined for the next ten years.
