Abstract

This article describes the ROSES Central Monitoring System (RCMS). The objectives of this site are 6 test systems which will monitor road conditions due to bad weather and provide the relevant driver information. The test site location is described briefly, as is the ROSES (ROad Safety Enhancement System) Central Monitoring System and the roadside communications network. The criteria measured include: a) weather conditions; b) road conditions such as temperature and surface condition; and c) traffic conditions. The algorithms used and the RCMS control interface are also described.
