Abstract

This guide sets out good practice to help achieve the targets set out in the DETR road safety strategy (United Kingdom). It is intended for local authority staff but is also of interest to the police, the Highways Agency, local health authorities, businesses and community groups. The management of road safety on the network, the general principles of road safety work, specific national safety problems (including details of accident rates on urban and rural roads including different categories of road users), engineering measures and their use in specific circumstances, evaluation of schemes, a bibliography, statistical techniques and feedback opportunities are provided.
