Road safety improvement supported by road management information system on the example of a few Polish cities.

Abstract

Preparing a detailed cause-effect analyses of crashes is possible only if an appropriate computer system is available and if it includes rich databases about accidents, traffic, highway features including the surrounding environment and weather conditions. Besides data complementarily the system asserts systematic and automatic analyses together with an easy access to data. Such a system was worked out by the authors and initiated in some Polish cities. Its name is RMIS (Road Management Information System). In the paper the authors present the system and provide several examples with the ultimate goal of road safety improvement.
