The specific research areas include: (1) the impact of the opening of Europe's borders on road safety; (2) road safety in the former East Germany; (3) safety on rural roads; (4) safety concerns in link-ups between modes of conveyance; (5) restricting risky traffic behaviour and road use; (6) vehicle safety and new technologies; (7) safety training; (8) target group segmentation; (9) rescue services; and (10) special issues. An example is the study into drug detection.
