Abstract

The aim of the Road Safety Risk Factors Study is to monitor: (i) the prevalence of road-related risk behaviours, and (ii) attitudes to, and perceptions of, road safety issues. The survey is conducted quarterly. It comprises a set of core questions which are asked each quarter, and supplementary questions which change each quarter. The core questions are related to drinking and driving, speeding, seat belt use, fatigue, bicycle helmet wearing, traffic violations and pedestrian activity. In the first survey, the supplementary questions were related to curfews for younger drivers and mobile phone use while driving. This report presents the results of the first survey. (A) For the second and third survey, see C 10609 and C 10610. For the fourth survey see ST 981544.
