Abstract

The use of an integrated approach to road safety in Victoria, Australia is described. Since 1970 road fatalities have decreased by 63% despite a doubling of vehicles using the roads. Systematic collection of accident data for use by a wide variety of users provides a foundation for developing road safety strategies and measuring programme effectiveness. The services provided by the Roads Corporation are described. Successful road safety campaigns are listed.
