Jacques Barrot, the European Commission Vice-President with special responsibility for transport, today took part in a parliamentary symposium on road safety in Europe held at the French National Assembly. He paid tribute to the measures taken by France to improve road safety, and outlined the achievements of EU policy in this field and the prospects for the future. In his conclusions, Mr Barrot urged the participants to keep up their good work and said that the Commission would step up its efforts with a view to achieving the target of halving the number of road accident victims by 2010.
