Abstract

Progress in the UK Government's road safety strategy is discussed with reference to the child pedestrian training programme, speed research, and vehicle standards. Challenges to progress include insufficient revenue and difficulty in recruiting skilled employees. The increase in motorcycling and motorcycle accidents makes motorcycle training an important issue. Other important issues include drink driving and opposition to road safety measures. The possibility of the UK Government introducing an initiative such as the Vision Zero initiative of Sweden is considered.
