Abstract

The continuing decrease in the road accident fatality rate in Victoria, Australia is lower than that for Australia as a whole. This is attributed to enforcement of drink-driving legislation, a reduction in speeding, accident black spot treatment, mandatory bicycle helmet use, and the impact of an economic downturn. The key safety publicity campaigns of 1992 and plans for the future are described.
