This is the third bulletin in an annual series bringing together statistics on traffic, road lengths, vehicle speeds and congestion in Great Britain. These statistics are used for a variety of purposes within government, informing policy and providing the source data for analytical research. One of the main uses of the traffic estimates is to feed directly into the National Transport Model, which is used to compare the likely impact of alternative national transport policies. Traffic estimates and congestion data are widely used outside the Department for Transport (DfT) by researchers, local authorities, businesses and the public.
