The Road Traffic Authority (RTA) has undertaken a small vehicle accident investigation function over the past three years. The results obtained to date demonstrate the value of the activity. Useful information has been passed to bodies responsible for vehicle standards and to vehicle manufacturers, and advice on particular aspects of maintenance and use of vehicles has been passed on through user and trade magazines. The activity has the additional value that general road users can identify with it and understand it, and it is a practical indication of the government's concern for individual road user's role in road safety measures (A).
