After the political and economical changes of the last few years, the traffic connections between South Burgenland, South-West Styria in Austria and the neighbouring part of Hungary have been analyzed in a recent study. The relationship between GDP, car ownership and border crossing traffic were analyzed for the last 20 years. It was shown that these factors are insufficient to explain the processes. The forecast used in the later stage of the project includes influencing factors such as motorization, number of hotel rooms, trip purposes and special factors related to the present transition period.
