Abstract

On the whole, there is still little scientific insight into road traffic regulations and their effects on pedestrian safety. Because of their behavioural characteristics, pedestrians are difficult to influence by means of such regulations, even combined with an increased level of police supervision. Short campaigns are unlikely to improve road safety. It seems worth while in the longer term to pay more attention to supervising pedestrian behaviour.
