Abstract

Even though motorways are the safest kind of roads, traffic accident still happen there as well. Rapid development of the motorway network in this country was accompanied by an increase in the number of traffic accidents. An organized safety activity could significantly reduce the number of those accidents, as well as further reduce the relative level of traffic risk. That safety activity should have the characteristics of a safety system and "Croatian motorways Ltd." has recently launched such project. The completion of the preliminary design of the system was followed by the realization of its first stage. This stage includes the creation of a new accidents database on the motorways. A new program solution for data input, data analysis, and spatial dimension presentation was created with the goal of enabling objective quantification and qualification of risk in any segment of the motorway network.
