Abstract

The report prepared for the 25th anniversary of the OECD Road Transport Research Programme highlights recent research developments and study findings of OECD activities undertaken during the last five years 1989-1993. About fifty international studies and projects were carried out or launched during this period. These activities were conducted by or in the form of Scientific Expert Groups, Research Workshops, Seminars, Symposia and Conferences as well joint research programmes. The first chapter covers pavement research, truck loading, maintenance issues and bridge management. The second on road safety deals with OECD's accident data base, human factor and institutional research, and research including impact assessment, hazardous assessment, hazardous goods transport, etc. and Chapter IV deals with traffic and freight transport research, in particular, transport telematics, logistics and the more conventional engineering measures. The last three chapters summarize new types of horizontal approaches aiding in the improvement of research management in OECD member countries (Chapter VI) and providing support to developing countries (Chapter VII). This report provides an overview of present thinking and research conclusions on selected policy topics of major common interest to the 24 OECD member countries.
