Abstract

Today the concepts of architecture for Road Transport Telematics (RTT) developed in Asia, US and Europe have been investigated in various development programs. Up to now these works are fragmented. Implementations driven by the existing technology are either on a limited scale, or specific purpose. Some recent progress has been reported through IVHS and European initiatives. The industry is now challenged by the expected growth of the Road Transport Telematics market. Systems are expanding, the capabilities required are increasing and a global approach is required. RTT systems will heavily rely on architectures which are based on Telecom architectures and networks. Many components are available or could be adapted, while some specific techniques will be developed for the RTT world. (A)
