Abstract

Construction of an exposed aggregate concrete pavement, with 10 mm maximum aggregate size, is described. Road-tyre noise, measured over a range of road surfaces, showed that exposed aggregate concrete was marginally quieter than dense-graded asphalt for cars and similar to open-graded asphalt for trucks. Good texture depth and skid resistance were obtained for the exposed aggregate concrete. (a).
