Abstract

The first part of this paper attempts to give an overall view of the road and street system in South Africa-its size, its cost and the way in which it is used. The second part of the paper describes some of the results of the Institute's work on road accidents. In the final part of the paper some of the problems in these fields of road operations are identified and discussed and the most profitable lines for research are indicated.
