Abstract

In recent years the development of urban traffic in Austria has been characterized by the compilation of better, well- founded data. This led to an intensive promotion of the non- motorized users of urban traffic, to a retro- structuring of existing roads and a preference of public transportation. In the federal province of Lower Austria. This modern development has already been taken up by the Federal Road Administration which heavily promotes it and exemplarily had a number of through- roads re- structured. A reformulation of the Austrian Federal Road Law for the first time made it possible in 1986 to use funds earmarked for federal roads for other than road construction purposes, provided the efficiency and functioning of the federal road are improved. The report also contains information on traffic innovations introduced in the past years.
