Abstract

Research done in Denmark on bicycle routes in towns is described in 1984. The government granted exceptionally DKR 10 m to four Danish towns in order to allow them as pilot projects to establish bicycle routes through dense urban areas. The aim of this project has been to produce various solutions and gain experience in making bicycle routes in places where conventional solutions are not applicable. In dense urban areas there is often very little room in the streets, and the varied traffic together with high speed cause many road accidents. A wide range of solutions have been tried out.
