Abstract

The aims of urban traffic policy in the cities of the Federal Republic of Germany are: - further intensive promotion of local public transport by means of investments for the structural installations and for vehicles and - considerable subsidising of fares, or the taking over of operational deficits; - integration of the private car into the "overall urban system" by measures of urban planning, road construction and design of visual structure;- utilization of modern data processing techniques for optimising traffic control and traffic flow; - improvement of parking space facilities; - promotion of pedestrian and cyclist traffic.
