Abstract

Certain major policy decisions like dispersal of metropolitan activities, development of small and medium towns around the metropolitan region and increased usage of electric traction have been planned for Calcutta and Delhi. A study conducted in Trivandrum on "low cost transport modes and urban poor" has highlighted the need for certain basic changes in urban transportation planning techniques and policies pertaining to the low cost transport modes including walking trips.
