Abstract

The article describes the Plessey Roadfone system. This provides a motorist's telephone service to enable contact to be made with the appropriate emergency service in the event of an accident or breakdown. Such a system has several fundamental differences from a normal telephone system in order to provide the required operating characteristics. The article explains how these are achieved and also discusses the method of cabling to roadside telephones. (Author/publisher)
